The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the business alongside his partner, announced that he plans to personally create this new flavor within an individual series highlighting issues the company was barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators versus Corporate Owner

The recent development escalates the ongoing tension among the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

The entrepreneur stated via social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, that closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand which originally created several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed that he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years of involvement, citing worries that its independence was compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence ensuring that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the values that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
