British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her US tour following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

- Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
- Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
- Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
