GameStop's Shiny Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendary Pokémon Promotion Persists to Encounter Problems
In late September, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo unveiled a collaborative event with GameStop. Until October 15, Shiny editions of the legendary mascots from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are being given away at physical GameStop stores in the United States and at EB Games in Australia and New Zealand. Participating local stores in additional nations such as Japan and France have also been added in the campaign.
Early Troubles and Supply Issues
However, the promotion got off to a rocky start—enthusiasts stated that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the period before the event. Currently, midway into the promotional period, the company has replenished codes, but it's likely your local store has depleted its stock again.
Due to overwhelming demand, the initial batch of free Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon code cards went very quickly.
On Saturday, October 4, GameStop declared a replenishment of codes on X. Their announcement explained that they had collaborated with The Pokémon Company to make more codes available, but there's a catch. "Pokémon has given us a limited number of codes, around 50 per location."
Reselling and Exploitation Problems
Initially, stores were given 50 codes, but they quickly ran through them. Even with the event restricting codes to a single code per individual, some online auction posts surfaced with several codes available. That's remained true for the new round of codes. A prominent response on X commented, "Are these the codes?" accompanied by screenshots of eBay listings for the codes, with at least one having several codes on offer.
Varied Outcomes for Players
Some players were able to snag codes during the weekend from their local stores, while others weren't so lucky. "Waiting on 3rd chance now. Just called my GameStop. They have no codes left (once more)," a fan commented, before fellow enthusiasts came forward and gave them extra codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.
Mystery Surrounding Distribution
Why the Shiny box legendaries weren't earned through a Tera Raid battle or given away online via the Mystery Gift feature remains unknown. At present, you'll have to head to your nearest retailer and pray they have codes left if you desire a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon.
