Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
