That Grisly Animated Film Ending That Haunts Viewers

Among every mature cartoon movies I have personally viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked ending of the graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, somber , often savage universe with a few small , desolate glimmers of optimism.

While Unicorn Wars feels like it came from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the filmmaker explained that it was actually an effort to express a global, multicultural theme about “the shared root of all wars.”

This theme is conveyed by means of a group of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a well-known series of cuddly characters.

Growing up in a society focused on militarism as well as the war machine, numerous the bears are obsessed with killing unicorns, because of a religious scripture which states the bears they were once kings of the forest, until the unicorns forced them out.

Some did not entirely fallen for the indoctrination, , choose to sample substances and fornicate in the woods.

Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters have visible genitals , definite libidos.

For one notably brutal, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against unicorns turns into a road to power — and especially to dominance above his softer, kinder brother Tubby.

The character behaves aggressively , an obvious sociopath , and while fear dominates his unit and claims his comrades sequentially, he takes progressively power for himself, via progressively violent, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, as an expanding, deadly beast in their habitat.

“At the beginning, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “Yet it evolves into a more intense and sad movie. And by the end, it’s a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the most quirky films from a renowned animator, that uncover a naughty glee in allowing animated figures curse, fire weapons, or engage sexually.

Afterward it evolves into more akin to a darker movie by that same artist, with increasingly graphic violence and a palpable connection to genuine tragedy of conflict.

In the finale, it’s a full-on extreme drama carnage.

The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween movie kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted fans of gore, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who want to watch something they’ve never viewed until now, and who can handle a plot which delivers absolutely no punches.

See it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the finale will burrow deep within you and stay with you.
