This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
