Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
